The most astonishing thing I ever heard my mother say, immediately after she had seen that I popped the side panel off the family car by backing up next to a large rock (back when I was 16. That sucker went flying), was the phrase "Fuck a duck!"
I don't think this is what she meant, but I am reminded of that incident.

Episode 29: Threatre de Fetiche

video
This episode was a blast to do. It features Theatre de Fetiche, one of Asheville's many burlesque troupes and one of the stars of the first Vortex Cabaret. I am looking forward to working with them again in the future.

2nd Vortex Cabaret this Wednesday, June 3rd

The Next Vortex is this upcoming Wednesday, June 3rd. We are featuring stand-up comic Jack Egan, Valerie of Hellblinki Sextet, Spycey Spyce, and the belly-dance troupe Baraka Mundi. It promises to be a helluva show. Also, admission is now the somewhat more sane $5. The Vortex Cabaret: it must be seen to be believed! Come early, and drink often.

In case you ever wondered what the ultimate "Pleasure Saucer" episode would look like....

Add some alien and a five minute serious discussion about public policy, and this would come pretty close.

Vortex Cabaret Post-Mortem

Vortex Cabaret was a blast.
I was worrying too much before the show, as usual. I have a tendency of psyching myself out before anything new, ramping up my anxiety to quite frankly comical levels before I do anything new. While this may sound like a good survival strategy, and it isn't, it does give you a nice release when things don't turn quite as bad as you imagined they would. Still, I had cause to be worried. One of my performers canceled the day of the show (family emergency), one didn't know where the venue was, and another thought the thing was happening at the Rocket Club. Lesson for next time: make sure everyone knows where to turn up beforehand.
There was NO ONE there when we started. And we started 30 minutes late, in the vain hopes someone would show up. Then, about 5 minutes after our first act, One Tough Cookie, took the stage, they came en masse. Well, en masse might be overstating things a bit. This was not a large crowd, at least as not as large as I initially hoped. But it was a good crowd for our first time.
The acts all performances all exceeded my expectations. Hell, half the reason I do stuff like this is because I don't see what I want, I don't have the experiences I want, and seems to be sometimes the only way to get those experiences is to make the thing myself. I'm quite pleased with this result. I hope to have (most of) them back for future performances.
The next Vortex Cabaret will be June 3rd, Wednesday, 10 PM, at the Boiler Room. Admission has been lowered to $5, so really should check it out.

Just When I Thought I Was Out....

I have made my stand against electoral politics clear, I believe. If voting could change anything, they'd make it illegal. And even if it could change something, so could mugging someone, and both activities have about the same moral weight in my opinion. But politics can be so darned tempting, sometimes. For instance, there's the Pirate Party (Pirate Party International here), and the Sex Party(Canadian Sex Party, Australian Sex Party). And don't forget that most hallowed of institutions, the Official Monster Raving Loony Party (The American Silly Party, which is evidently just someone's blog. Which makes it totally different than what you're reading now.)
The latest political party to cause my convictions to waiver is presented here, by TooFar.TV. You have to appreciate their forthright manner.

And now, Election Night.

Vortex Cabaret this Wednesday, and other things

So, the Vortex Cabaret is this Wednesday, starting at 10 PM. I am incredibly nervous, and will probably me only more so on the the night. You should buy me a drink to help me calm down. Or a steak, that would be calming too. Does cooked meat have a calming effect on anyone else, or is it just me?
I also have a new episode premiering this Wednesday, featuring the Theatre de Fetiche. It will be up on the site later that day as usual.
Finally, I'm shooting a music video for Jeff Markham and the Last Call on May 24th. If you would like to be in it (I understand there may be beer), please let me know.

With Craigslist’s recent announcement that its Erotic Services category will be discontinued within the week, hundreds of thousands of erotic service providers will become more vulnerable to dangerous predators. Eliminating erotic listings as Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and others propose will only drive us further underground.

Policing the masseuses, phone workers, pro-dominants, and escorts using Craigslist fails to protect those of us who are coerced into the sex industry. Preventing the use of Craigslist advertisements also eliminates the advantage of screening clients online, which makes for a safer work experience by filtering out potentially dangerous individuals. Furthermore, keeping us offline hinders police investigations of violent crime. In the Boston murder of Julissa Brisman, it was online tracking that enabled the police to identify the suspect. One has to wonder: are the Attorneys General examining the evidence or simply enforcing their moral values?

“Removing the erotic services category from Craigslist does not help prevent violence against escorts and other sex workers. It only pushes me and people like me out of the places where advertising is available,” said Jessica Bloom, a sex worker from Sex Workers Action New York (SWANK). In the face of increasing criminalization, we insist upon respect. As mothers, daughters, brothers, and members of your community, we claim that sex work is real work, work that we are entitled to conduct in safety. As such, we must be accorded the human right of full protection under the law.

Evidently there was a problem encoding this week's episode. It shall premiere next week. That is all. Lemuria prevails.

Belated Mother's day post

I love my mother. I think I have a good relationship with her. I sometimes wish my relationship with my father was a bit closer, but still, a good relationship. Be that as it may, This would be an interesting relationship to have with the parental units.
